Caddies on the PGA TOUR allowed to wear shorts. So why not the players?

Caddies on the PGA TOUR allowed to wear shorts. So why not the players?

Players are now allowed to wear golf shorts during practice and pro-am rounds! This change to the PGA TOUR's Player Appearance guidelines is in effect now.

Shorts must be knee-length, tailored and neat in appearance. Compression leggings worn underneath shorts must be solid in color. Guess what? Long pants remain required for all official competition rounds.

Rory McIlroy doesn't see a problem.

"It makes the guys a lot more comfortable. I don't think there's anything wrong with professional golfers showing the lower half of their leg."

Caddies on the PGA TOUR are allowed to wear shorts during competition days. So why not the players? Some days they can be enduring temperatures in the high 20s to mid 30s which poses a greater risk for heat exhaustion.

The announcement follows many years of discussion. Support for wearing shorts seem to be unanimously agreed upon between players, fans and sponsors.

When will we see shorts in official competition rounds?
