Slow Play Costs LIV Golfer $240k!

Slow Play Costs LIV Golfer $240k!

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia - LIV Golf's commitment to enforcing pace of play rules was evident this past weekend, as Adrian Meronk learned the hard way during the final round of the Jeddah Invitational.

Meronk, the reigning DP World Tour Player of the Year, was assessed a one-stroke penalty for taking over two minutes to play his second shot on the 18th hole. This violation, the second in LIV Golf history, resulted in him dropping from a tie for fifth with Jon Rahm to a six-way share of sixth, costing him a significant $240,000 in prize money.

Meronk's Group Warned Early, Timed Later:

According to a LIV Golf press release, Meronk's group, which also included Jon Rahm and Kevin Na, was warned by a rules official after the eighth hole for falling behind schedule. Despite the warning, the group continued to lag behind, leading to official timing of their shots later in the round.

LIV Golf is serious about pace of play:

Players get 40 seconds per shot (with an extra 10 seconds if they're first).
Meronk's group received warnings for being slow earlier in the round.
This is only the second slow-play penalty in LIV Golf history!

LIV Golf's stance on pace of play stands in stark contrast to other tours. Notably, the PGA Tour hasn't issued a slow-play penalty in an individual tournament since 1995. This has led some players, including Brooks Koepka, to openly criticize the lack of enforcement on other tours.

Is LIV Golf setting the bar for faster play in golf? What do you think?

P.S. Meronk still walked away with over $500,000!
