Club Fitting Essentials

Advanced Fundamentals Tips By Andrew Jeffers

Hi, I'm Andrew Jeffers Director of Clubfitting here at the Green Room in North Vancouver. Today I want to talk to you about your club fitting and how your clubs fit you. One of the most important things in a golf club is the lie angle. This is the relationship between the bottom of the club and the angle that you're holding it at. If this club is not flat at impact, you won't be hitting the ball straight. If your lie angle is too upright meaning that the toe is off the off the ground, the heel will catch first, flipping the golf head over and you will hit it to the left. If the lie angle is too flat, the toe will catch the ground first opening the club up and you will hit the ball to the right. This is something that you really want to have checked out. It is not expensive and most of the golf clubs on the market are bendable. The other thing we are going to talk about is the other end of the club is the grip and the grip size. Grip size is very important. It is the only thing that connects you with the golf club. You want to make sure that when you are holding the golf club that your two fingers here just touch the palm of your hand. That would be the correct grip size. If you have space in there, you have too large of a grip. Your hands rotate too slowly through impact and you'll hit it to the right all the time. If it is squishing into your hand, you create too much tension in your hands and you rotate your hands too quickly through impact, causing your shot dispersion to go everywhere.
